i've given this alot of thought, i think the youth weekend is great but there are alot of youngsters that dont fill there tags. we all know its tuff enough to shoot a buck so what i'm thinking is any youth under 16 should be allowed to harvest a buck or doe for the entire firearms season

I argee 100 %...This would also maybe save a few younger bucks to grow another year..So the kids have a chance at a bigger buck next year.

Whats up guys? Dens saw you standing outside proctors store the other day was going to stop and say high but you were talking to another guy. I was thinking about this the only thing that may happen if they did this is that there would be so many skipper getting whacked do you think it would throw the herd numbers for young buck off in a couple of years? I know alot of youths that go without filling a tag because they see alot of antlerless deer, I just wonder if they were allowed to smoke whatever they saw we would loose alot of button bucks. Just a thought but I am all for getting a kid a deer, so dont want you to think Im coming off with the wrong intention like I said just a thought. Take care and good luck guys.

I dont think this would happen as they would still be required to have an adult with them while hunting. So as long as the parent didn't allow them to shoot the buttons we would be all set. I am all for it. But because of the thought that SOME people would be shooting deer and making their kid tag it I think we are hard pressed to see this happen. Its really too bad for the kids.

I think it would be a great thing for the sport of hunting. I would rather see kids get involved and stay interested, rather than worry about some button bucks being shot. The sport of hunting is dying and hunting for table fare is even further removed. I like to shoot a nice buck and I make that choice, but forcing it on someone else, especially a kid, just so I can have a chance at a big one is sad. There are plenty of big ones out there, put on your shoes and go find one. It is shameful though to think that an adult would shoot a deer and make a kid tag it, although I know it probably happens. We were lucky Saturday evening in the rain. My 12 year old sone shot a 130lb doe.

Ac I am on the same page as you, I have no problem with kids shooting whatever they want it was more in responce that I didnt think it would make the bucks grow any bigger, that in a few years we would have shot all the future seed. That topic has been discussed over and over. I didnt want to beat a dead horse with my opinions or offend anyone.

I am all for all year long as well but doubt we would see that..But it would be nice if the youth weekend was a youth week....Maybe saturday to saturday so they have a couple weekend chances without others in the woods...Especially when it rains buckets like it did this past youth weekend it would give them a little more time...and there is that week between M/L and youth weekend...Why not let the kids have the whole week...Would be nice to see...My daughter missed a very nice deer on saturday evening...Man what a blast that was....

I just saw the harvest numbers 346 this year just up from last years 341 not bad considering the weather on saturday. I also saw that a kid shot a nice 200 plus pounder up in pittsburg, might be the biggest ever during youth weekend.

We went to VT this weekend for the youth hunt. Its the first time we have been able to participate being from NH. MY son shot a spike horn Saturday Morning. He is 12 years old and two for two this year. My friends eleven year old shot an 8 piont 173lb buck. I am talking a legit eight point, thick and high with brow tines.

I didnt think it was legal to shoot spike horns in our state AC. A legal buck needs to points on a side.
