Well I figured I would see if anyone has been out in the woods lately putting out their game cameras? I am only getting does so far. Have seen pics of other peoples and they are getting some real beauties..So if your sitting around doing nothing..Get them cameras out, they have plenty of bone on their heads already..

Hey Armand, Havent had a chance since Connor was born, but over the past week Hilary and I have had Two big healthy does, one of them with newborn twins come out into our back yard almost every evening. I got them on film with Hil's handy cam the other night. Fawns were chacing each other around in my yard @ 100 mph. Mama was only 10 yards from my kitchen window when I was filming. Pretty cool to watch them play around ---------- Noyes

Put a few cams out this morning, seeing tons of deer everyday down in my neck of the woods. Trails everywhere so I keeping cams there for a week at a time to figure out where the big boys are roaming... Saw two bucks cross the road this morning by my house. Their head gear was nothing to brag about, but cool to see. Noyes, congrats on Connor, see you next weekend. JB

Just went out for some heavy duty scouting- came to a field on my way out of the woods with a doe and her fawn. Watched her cleaning it for a few minutes, and naturally, I left my camera at the house. Raced back, got it, went back and sure enough, they were gone. However got a 6 pointer on film in the same field and another doe. Pretty pumped.

Jarrod, I'll take all the help I can get. I can only go off of what areas that are recommended. You guys have tons of moose in your neck of the woods, and I have only seen a few in my life ahahha. My plan is to go after him with my bow, however if no luck with that, I will be putting the 7 mag to use. I will get your contact info this weekend, cause I will need help dragging it out.

Just got in, got 2 photos of a real good buck. Think he may be one of Armand and I's culprit of one of the sheds we found. Already high and outside the ears so I am getting pretty stoked... Also just about tripped on twin fawns on my way out of the woods but they were gone before I could get the camera on. Anyone else finding anything?

Well didnt do very well for pics on the game cameras this week as far as numbers go but did go shining last night and saw a nice group of three eight points in one of my favorite hunting spots. Pumped about that for sure, still early yet but looking good. One of them would probably push 125 when hes done growing. Needless to say I'll be scouting in there tomorrow. Putting the cams back out tomorrow, hope to do better this week. good luck all

Well I went to put some cameras out yesterday. Got one up and went about 100 yards to find another camera in same area. No big deal its public land so I cant complain. BUT---I am unsure as the reason they has a doe estrus scent wafer hanging in front of it in JULY!!! Probably the reason i saw HALF the sign that I did last time I was there..LOL Went about 400-500 yards away from that area and found some good sign, jumped two nice bucks when I got there to. looked like both 8 pointers. Everywhere I go I see bucks lately.>So I probably wont see any come September..Hahaha

Checked camera's yesterday in a swamp bottom. Had a wicked place but my NO Flash failed to take any photos. Not to happy about that, but got another about 100 yards away with my Cudde IR of a doe and a coyote both crossing a creek. Wish I had more photos but that's the good thing about these things, they tell you where you do and don't have good activity. Havn't gotten back on those bucks yet, hopefully soon.... 8 more weeks!!!

I am not much of a blogger, but I get antsy this time of year. I have had two camera out for the past three weeks or so. I have a lot of pictures of does and a few small bucks, but no big bucks yet. I also have quite a few bear pictures. One bear knocked my camera right off the tree. I have been practicing a lot with a recurve this summer. I am thinking of trying to kill a deer with it. I am sure if I carry the recurve in the woods, I will see a 160 inch buck at 30 yards!!

Jeff, How the heck are ya man? Got that video camera all figured out yet? You know for sure if you have a recurve a monster will step out too far. Ask Dave Mayo how many times it has happened to him..LOL Super pumped to get this video done and get on with my season. I have been getting good pics but was just informed by another guy who hunts the property that there is a 150+ on this land he has seen this summer..So with any luck that big boy will stroll by.. Keep in touch

I got some more photos back earlier this week. Got a couple of small bucks, one decent 8 point, and bears using the two different trails. I ended up seeing a good 8 point with wicked tall 2's (12")on the way to check one of my cameras, and then saw a decent bull 40"+ about a half mile from the camera. No corkers bucks yet...there definitely there though!!!

Hi Armand, I'm doing well. I had to send the camera back and they replaced the output board. I can view the video on TV and I can read the SD card from my camera on my computer, but I haven't figured out how to load the video on my computer. I might slide down to bone's place and see if it works on your setup. If it does, I can work on the firewire card in my computer. If I come down, I will bring a few trail cam picts. I measured a NH buck that netted 165" the other day. It had 6 1/2" bases!! They are out there. That will get you fired up for the season.

Going to scout that area some more before I hang a stabbing stand in there. Not quite sure where I want to be yet come sept.15. Going back out today to hang a cam in another honey hole oak nob. Well see

Hey guys, Scott P its no surprise you found another shed..LOL Its in your blood.. I have been getting pics from alot of guys, love seeing them. One spot me and Johnny found I think will be a hammer spot come fall. Too many trails meeting in one spot not to kill one..Was a pretty buck on his camera too. I would hammer him!!! I just got back from scouting, been at it atleast 6 days a week now. Jumped a nice buck (which I hate) but it showed me a awesome spot in a laurel thicket with a water hole in it and a goat path going to it..Needless to say No flash is there.. Went walking more and found great trail intersection behind a small swamp..Another cam there...Alot of these spots seem to be every now and then trails. None of the deer are using same trails very often (which I have found to mean its bucks usually)..So, its luck of the draw til the food starts falling..Some of the trees have softball size clusters of acorns.. Cant wait..

Hey Scott P,,,Yeah it is a small world huh...I am actually still into the cameras pretty big..I have about 10-12 myself and have built 4 for other guys..I have them out as much as I can and am always looking for ways to improve them..Including battery life and such...They are actually looking better and better..Its addicting for sure and im always trying to make a better one.. Would be great to get some pointers from you on bear baiting. I am wanting to try and get one with my bow. I have a big plastic barrel already and need to prep that...Ive read that I should cut about a 6" hole in it and then chain it to a tree... Any suggestions on bait besides donuts? setup suggestions? Ive never been and never baited but I am excited to give it a try..Wuold love some input from someone whos been there and done that....I should send you some pictures sometime of the new camera units....They are working pretty sweet...and the picture quality has been awesome...

I've had the fun of baiting with Scott P, and began baiting myself a couple of years ago. I'm lucky to have a huge blackberry/rasberry patch behind my house with a lot of bears in the area. I cut a 12" square hole in the top of a 55 gallon plastic barrel and then chained it to a tree through to small holes about 1-2' apart in the middle of the wall of the drum. 5-10 gallons of Donuts, pastries, sweets, molasses every other night or so, we couldn't stop-em from comin in. A few nice ones too!

NH Fisherman, I am no expert on the subject but for some reason I love doing it (it can be addicting) one of the first things to look for is a good bear area I know that sounds dumb but really just like deer there are areas that bears really frequent. they will actually mark trees to scent communicate with each other (for some reason they really like telephone poles (really take notice) I've also found cherry and spruce (they probably do all kinds. next I like to set my bait up in quite thick cover on the edge of open cover (preferably with the open area downwind) they will really hug the edge trying to scent check the area before commiting but they won't like the open. I wire tie my barrel (when I use one) with something like 9ga. wire (2 loops) I cut out the whole top of the barrel I basically only use the barrel to keep my bait dry. I only use sweets I've tried a few different things but always seem to have the best luck with sweets although I know folks who only use sunflower seeds (to expensive to run many baits) I 've heard beaver is excellent bait but never tried it my self but I know alot of outfitters use it up in Canada. I also when first set up a site usually try and put out a strong odor atractant like Anise oil or peppermint schnapps I will fill a milk jug with cotton batting and load the jug up and suspend it up high in a sapling (this year I am trying some highly concentrated scent balls I bought out of a outfit in wisconsin they are extremly strong smelling and I think they will be great but they are expensive (google bear scent balls and you'll find them))I load up the barrel from the get go for 2 weeks I DON'T WANT THEM TO RUN OUT! then I start cutting them back so hopefully it will encourage them to come in earlier in the eve. (because there isn't so much to be had)I really don't like to hunt a bait untill it's been active at least 1 week 2 is better. I set my stands up to be no more then 20 yds. with a bow after a week you should start to be able to see which direction they pefer to be coming from and which way they feel more comfortable by which way the barrel is facing. all bears look big but note how there ears are postioned if they look small and kinda on the sides and he's as big as a 55 gal. drum he's a respectable bear. if he looks like a furry volkswagon give I'm one! hope some of this helps, good luck! and when you get I'm send this site a Pic. for the book!Scott P

Hey Scott P...thanks much for all the ideas and info..Anything at this point for me is all an education....Been reading up and getting ideas..Now I just need to implement them and see what happens...I was thinking of doing like a 6" hole in the barrell as I read that someplace...Would you recommend this or is it to risky of having a bear getting caught in the hole? I was gonna lay it on its side on the ground with the hole in the top and it bolted/chained to the tree at the bottom of the barrell...Thoughts on this approach? I can really only get to the bait site on weekends so I dont want the bait running out in just a few days... Johnny B - If you want to get ahold of me you can reach me at brandonreed@burnellarchitects.com..Where are you from? Drop me a line and we can talk.. Sorry Johnny B I had a typo in there on architects...its fixed now

NH Fisherman I don't think you gotta worry about trapping him in the barrel. if your only gonna be able to check it on weekends I would really load it up.. if you get multiple bears hitting it they can go thru alot of bait. however you attach it to the tree think rugged! (within reason) they will rip it off if they can.

Matt: I had a lot of problems with an IR last fall and winter...grainy night photos. Sent it back and got a new one and it was even worse. They refunded my money and I ended up with a Moultrie 5.0 Game Spy. Works great, same trigger speed as far as I can tell and takes great night and daytime photos. The only downfall so far is that the bear guard is bulkier than the IR's. Cost me $229 out of Cabela's.

Sorry I'm just getting this to you now Matt... I on the other hand have had some pretty good luck with my IR, but I am looking to just get photos of what is walking in that area. I ended up getting a photo of a pretty nice looking buck last week when I was with Armand, he may have sent you the photo....? It was taken by that camera and as Scott mentioned they can be grainy photos, but mine tend to be more at night, or if a deer is on the move... My Moultrie on the other hand, I have had some ruff luck with and seems Scott has great luck with his LOL. But then again it is not the one he has but an older model. Its what you are going for, I would take the cheapest camera out there if I knew they would take a photo of whatever walks by. The IR has a knob you literally just turn to what ever time setting you want, and its ready to rock.... Get my number from Armand and well chat it up. You on any good bucks with your cams?

Hey guys thanks for the info on the cams.Believe it or not I'm still in the stone age with 35mm nontypical deer cams.lol. One thing i can say for them they take awesome pics,I just hate the flash these days, had a real good buck on my cam with a smaller eight,by the third pic i got of him he was in mid flight headed out of there fast from the flash I'm guessing. It was in the daytime too.But thats where alot of my focus is right now,I have seen him shining and saw him in daylight too, trying to figure him out now.Going to be hanging stands soon in there. We shall see. Thanks agin for the camera feedback.

Yea I know it may sounds stupid, but if I was up in the middle of the night to eat and a flash went off in my face, I would be trying everything in my power to not have that happen again. I know what your saying, Im heading to Cabelas today, I need to get a couple more cams for here and for moose... let me know how you make out with your camera selection.
