Bow Yardage

Alright,

So I can drive tacks with my bow no problem at up to 20 yards. My confidence level goes right down the hopper as soon as I hit 30 yards. Seems to me that recently every time I shoot at 30 yards I am about 90 % going to hit my target in a grouping just a little larger than I want.

However to me thats not good enough. I am a hunter that likes thick thick cover and my shots are usually right on top of the deer at 20 yards or less.

I am shooting a trophy ridge matrix guide series 5 pin sight and feel sometimes I am distracted by the above pins. Besides switching to a single pin, does anyone have any suggestions on making myself a bit more accurate at 30 yards?

I would have to see you shoot to be able to help you correct it bud..Could be a many number of things that you are doing or the bow is doing. How old is the bow? What is the bow? How old is the string and harness? Shooting fingers or release? Loop or on the string?? And many more questions to come..LOL
Better yet show up for our cookout on the 7th at Grafton County fish and game club and we can personally help you out..

Its last years Parker Fronter. I am shooting with a release and string loop. As far as I know, the string does not need to be released. I maintain it with wax after I shoot however it seems lately my shots have been falling more at 30 yards- again, it could be me, but Ive been shooting hoyts, pse and now parker. I am actually starting to think it isn't me...(sounds cocky I know)

To many factors that may tie into why its happening. I just figured if I'm all set at 20 yards, what could be the factor that makes sure Im all set at 30-?

Reading these messages,it sounds like I'm an amateur ahahah- just looking for some outside knowledge.

Hey, I have some photos of last years season, do you guys have a place you can view them or a site to send them to?

I have 20/20 for my eyes. I went back and looked at my sites, and they are .19 size pins- there was an option for .29 pins but to be honest, I didn't want to spend the extra 50 bucks. Should that make a difference?

I dont take it as a wise ass comment, trust me I am looking for a reason as to how I can make sure I am "lung shafting" and not spine cracking when he steps out. You know what I mean?

I will have to forward you some of the photos of last years hogs, deer, ducks and turkey- thanks again for all your advice, the hunting talk takes the stress away from my job ahaha

Actually the .029 pins would be worse because they take up more of your target..My opinion the smaller the better. Do you use a peep? Are you making sure your anchor is very consitent? If your shooting high alot then you are either punching the trigger when you get on foam, or you are not centering in your peep..OR, just need to move your pin. But it sounds like you are only off once in a while..You said you are distracted by the above pins? How tight is your 30 to your 20? If its right on top of it then get rid of it..

I just went through a similar problem with my Hoyt Vectrix that I bought new last year. My pins (20, 30 and 40 yards) hadn't moved, my draw weight and arrows didn't change since last year, and I started shooting low (3"+/-) at 30 yards. 6" + low at 40 yards. The end result was that my string had stretched, and that was affecting my drop-away rest (not allowing it to be perpendicul at full draw) so that I was shooting low. Very frustrating...but finally got it fixed and I am back driving tacks.
