It was opening morning in NH and Aaron and I headed out across a pasture to set up our Ameristep Doghouse blind. It was raining so we had to keep the camera dry plus the owner told me this longbeard had been hanging out in the middle of the pasture. First light came and "Gobble". We turned and looked to see the big longbeard in a huge pine strutting on his branch.Worried he would fly the wrong way Aaron starting calling. Well a hen decided to have a calling war with Aaron, this got the longbeard turned in our direction. After a while of this the hen landed 10 yards from our blind, then the Tom jumped off his perch and landed 20 yards away. The hen saw something so Aaron said "are you on him". I quickly adjusted and BAM. Down went one NH bird at 5:45am. Very quick hunt. Aaron was pumped and so was I. But no time to waste I still have a tag.
Off we went to my house to get my bow. I shot alot of turkeys and wanted to give spring bowhunting a try..First it was to the store for the traditional Mountain Dew and Honey Buns. Then off to another spot. The first place we tried we spooked one before we even got started. So we headed to another known place and right off we heard one. Well we didn't walk far and we were close so we ran to some trees and I started giving them the diaphram. This hen went nuts and started coming to me, dragging Mr. longbeard right behind her. I had ranged some trees and when he was coming to my 35 yards opening i drew. Right then he turned and the hen popped right out in front of me. She see us and started putting, so he got nervous and started looking like he was going to go.Having one hole to shoot through and I could see to the base of his neck I put my 35 yard pin on the base of his neck and squeezed the Scott release. The new Turkey Terror flew true and nailed him right where I was aiming. What an unbelievable day. It was only 8am and we were done. That's # 5 for Aaron and I in 3 days. Can it get any better? I dont think so!!!!!
