After an awesome season of filming friends and family, I finally got to connect on a deer. Me and my son, Kyle, had been hunting these bucks in central Vermont all weekend with no luck. Always seeing them, but although they were close enough for me, Kyle can only shoot 25
yards and they would just not come close enough. On this night, my camera man overslept and my camera arm was at home so I had to fly back to my house and get the arm and then back to
my spot. I arrived in my tree about 4:30pm and got all set up to film myself. Turkeys showed up at 5:30pm, as usual. Then they spooked and I looked to my right ... 2 does and a small buck
were coming into the apples. One of the does was a very mature deer. I waiting for her to get
broadside, but just as I was getting ready to draw back on her, this buck stepped out at about 34 yards. I got the camera on him and he heard something so he ran out to the far apple tree. I readajusted and ranged him again with my Nikon rangefinder, and at that point he ranged at about 47 yards. Got the camera on him, drew, settled the pin and let if fly! I hit the buck absolutely perfect!! He ran only about 60 yards before falling over. What started as a stressfull night, turned out to be very exciting. To harvest a buck on film, and to film it alone was not easy, but it sure was a lot of fun.
