After receiving a fresh snow fall the evening before, I couldn't wait to get out of work to do some tracking. I arrived at my spot at daylight to find two other trucks there doing the same thing. I headed into a clear cut and cut a huge track within the first 100 yards. So I started tracking the deer, followed him across the main road and into woods I've never been into before. 3 miles later, he finally started to slow down and feed, so I, in turn slowed down also. Within another 1/4 mile, I jumped a huge doe. When I approached where I had jumped her from, I looked up to see this huge buck walking towards me grunting. I flipped my scope covers open, he looked at me, but at 30 yards it was too late. I shot him straight on, he went down and then got back up, so I shot him broadside. He ran 20 more yards and it was over! When I looked over the bank, I could not believe the mass on this buck. By far my best rifle buck Ever! I checked my GPS, I had a 2.1 mile drag so I got on the cell phone and text everyone that I knew. Plenty of people came
to help, but my partner Bone, got there for the last 3/4 of a mile. Thank God, because I was beat!
Thank goodness for the snow and for the great re-loads I get from Donnie Smith
